Accessibility at Pet Story Press

Our commitment
A personalized book should be something anyone can make. We want every part of Pet Story Press to work for people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, voice control, or any other assistive technology.
The standard we aim for
We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is the benchmark most widely used to measure whether a website is usable by people with disabilities.
We describe ourselves as partially conformant rather than fully conformant. That means most of the site meets the standard, and we are honest below about the parts we are still working on. We would rather tell you exactly where we stand than make a claim we cannot back up.
What we have done
- The whole book-creation flow can be completed with a keyboard alone, without a mouse or trackpad.
- Every step of that flow announces itself to a screen reader, including errors, price changes, and progress updates.
- Text and interface colours were reviewed against the WCAG AA contrast thresholds.
- Photos on the book cover can be repositioned with on-screen arrow buttons as well as by dragging, so a pointer is never required.
- Pages carry proper headings and landmarks, and a “skip to main content” link, so assistive technology can navigate them quickly.
- Moving content can be paused, and animation is reduced automatically if your device asks for that.
- Automated accessibility checks run against the site as part of our normal development process.
Known limitations
We would rather list these than pretend they do not exist:
- Checkout. Payment is handled on a page hosted by Shopify, our payment provider. We do not control that page’s code. If you hit a barrier there, please tell us. We will help you complete the order another way.
- Order status. The public order status page is newer than the rest of the site and has not yet been through the same accessibility review.
- Screen reader coverage. Our testing to date has focused on VoiceOver. We have not yet completed a full pass with NVDA or JAWS on Windows.
- Book previews. The cover preview shows how a printed book will look. It is described in text nearby, but the visual arrangement itself cannot be fully conveyed non-visually.
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible to use, please tell us. Reports from real users are the most valuable thing we receive, and we treat them as bugs, not feedback.
Email support@petstorypress.com or use our contact form. Please describe what you were trying to do, the page you were on, and the assistive technology and browser you were using. That helps us reproduce the problem quickly.
We aim to reply within one business day, and we will tell you what we intend to do and roughly when. If a fix will take time, we will offer a way to complete your order in the meantime.
How we test
We combine automated checks with manual testing: keyboard-only navigation, screen reader passes, page zoom up to 400%, and review against the WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. Automated tools catch only a portion of accessibility problems, so manual testing is the part we rely on most.
