Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Pet Story Press. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy will inform you about how we look after your personal data when you visit our website and tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you. By using our services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect, use, store and transfer different kinds of personal data about you, which we have grouped together as follows:

  • Identity Data: includes first name, last name, username, or similar identifier.
  • Contact Data: includes email address, billing address, and shipping address.
  • Financial Data: includes payment card details. Note that we use third-party payment processors and do not store your full payment information on our servers.
  • Transaction Data: includes details about payments to and from you and other details of products you have purchased from us.
  • Technical Data: includes internet protocol (IP) address, sign-in code activity, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform, and other technology on the devices you use to access this website. It also includes error, performance, and diagnostic information that our systems record about how our website and services are working.
  • Usage Data: includes information about how you use our website and services.
  • Pet Information: includes details about your pet such as name, type, breed, age, and color that you provide to create your personalized storybook.
  • Photos and Content: includes photos of your pet and any other details or text you provide, which are processed by automated and third-party artificial intelligence services to generate your personalized storybook, including its text and cover art.

Automated image processing and faces

To place your pet on your book's cover, we may remove the photo's background using an automated service that analyzes it to separate the subject from its background. That analysis may detect that a face is present in the image. We do not use facial recognition. We do not create, collect, capture, store, or use a scan of face geometry, a faceprint, a biometric template, or any other biometric identifier, and we do not use anything derived from your photos to identify any person. We never sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from biometric information. Photos and the image files derived from them are retained and deleted as described in Section 6. The provider that performs the background removal deletes its copy of the image shortly after processing it.

3. How We Use Your Information

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal data in the following circumstances:

  • To create and deliver your personalized pet storybook.
  • To process your uploaded photos and pet details through artificial intelligence services in order to generate storybook text, images, and cover art.
  • To process and manage your orders and payments.
  • To communicate with you about your order, including shipping updates.
  • To improve our website, products, and customer experience.
  • To send you marketing communications (with your consent).
  • To comply with legal obligations.
  • To protect our business and your account from fraud and other illegal activities.

4. Data Security

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those employees, agents, contractors and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your personal data on our instructions and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share your information only with service providers who help us operate our business and deliver your storybook, and only to the extent needed for that purpose. These include:

  • Payment processors, to handle checkout and billing.
  • Print-on-demand and shipping partners, to manufacture and deliver your book.
  • Artificial intelligence service providers, to generate storybook text, images, and cover art from the details and photos you provide.
  • Cloud hosting and storage providers, to securely store your data and generated files.
  • Email delivery providers, to send order, shipping, and account notifications.
  • Error monitoring providers, to detect and fix technical problems with our website and services.

Each provider is bound by contract to use your information only to provide services to us and to protect it. We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Pet Story Press, our customers, or others.

6. Data Retention and Account Deletion

We retain your personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, including to deliver your storybook and to satisfy legal, tax, accounting, and reporting requirements. While your account is active, we keep the details and content you provide so we can create and reprint your book.

You can request deletion of your account at any time by using our contact form (select "Delete My Account") or by emailing privacy@petstorypress.com. When you request deletion, a 30-day grace period begins, during which you can cancel. We will email you to confirm the request and again before the deletion is carried out. We verify that a request comes from the account holder, or a parent or guardian acting for a child, before acting on it.

When the deletion is carried out, we permanently erase the personal and creative information associated with your account, including your name and contact details, your pet's name and photo, the background-removed cutout, the generated story and titles, any dedication text, and the print-ready files. We also instruct the third-party providers that help us deliver your book, such as our payment, printing, storage, and email providers, to delete their copies. If you started your book under one email address and came back under another, the book moves to your newer account while the photo file stays where it was first saved. In that case we keep the file, because deleting it would remove the cover image from a book you still have. The file is never shared with anyone outside your own accounts.

If you placed an order, the law requires us to keep a minimal record of that transaction, such as the amounts, dates, and order number, for tax and accounting purposes. Before retaining it, we strip out the information that identifies you, including your email address and your billing and shipping addresses. We do not keep your book, your photos, or your story, apart from the moved-book case described above. If you never placed an order, we erase everything, apart from that same case.

After deletion, we may keep anonymized statistics that no longer identify you, for example general pet categories, age ranges, product and feature usage, marketing campaign data, and internal cost and usage metrics, to understand and improve our products. We keep this information only in de-identified form, and we commit never to attempt to re-identify it or to associate it with you again.

7. Your Legal Rights

Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data, including the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data.
  • Request correction of your personal data.
  • Request erasure of your personal data.
  • Object to processing of your personal data.
  • Request restriction of processing your personal data.
  • Request transfer of your personal data.
  • Right to withdraw consent.

If you wish to exercise any of the rights set out above, please contact us at privacy@petstorypress.com.

Your California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, gives you additional rights regarding your personal information:

  • The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information.
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
  • The right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of these rights.

Where we de-identify personal information, we maintain it in de-identified form and commit not to attempt to re-identify it, except as permitted by law. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@petstorypress.com. We will verify your request against the information associated with your account before acting on it.

8. Third-Party Links

This website may include links to third-party websites, plug-ins and applications. Clicking on those links or enabling those connections may allow third parties to collect or share data about you. We do not control these third-party websites and are not responsible for their privacy statements. When you leave our website, we encourage you to read the privacy policy of every website you visit.

9. Cookies

Our website uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our website. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse our website and also allows us to improve our site. By continuing to browse the site, you are agreeing to our use of cookies. A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that we store on your browser or the hard drive of your computer if you agree.

10. Children's Privacy

Our services are directed to adults, and accounts and purchases are made by adults. Some storybooks name a child as the book's author, and the adult account holder provides those details on the child's behalf. We do not knowingly allow children under the age of 13 to create their own accounts or knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information directly, we will take steps to delete such information. If you are a parent or guardian and you have questions about the information associated with your account, please contact us.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new privacy policy on this page and updating the "last updated" date at the top of this privacy policy. You are advised to review this privacy policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this privacy policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
